2012 Favorites

Kim and Kanye

OK, I knowI’m gonna get some heat for this one but I love them. I think they’re perfectly suited and quite similar in some aspects. Like I said before, I could do without the way he’s changed her style but there are aspects of it that have gotten better. I think he’s perfectly suited to her and I think all his shout outs in songs and random tweets about her are cute. I don’t know, they just remind me of young love and I think that’s kind of nice since they’re both in their 30s.

Kate Upton

When Kate Upton first became a thing my immediate reaction was “why”? And I received a lot of sass for that. My thinking wasn’t that she wasn’t pretty but more that she was just like any other pretty blonde girl with huge boobs, generic. I didn’t understand the hype but over this past year, I’m starting to get it. First of all, her various Vogue spreads have been AMAZING and while she isn’t the most uniquely gorgeous person on the planet she’s got one thing that I greatly, GREATLY, appreciate…she looks like a real woman.

When Kate Upton puts on a bikini you see curves, and flesh, and she seems soft and sexy and sensuous all at the same time. In the age of Victoria Secret models who happen to have the bodies of 13 year old girls and no meat whatsoever on their bones, it’s nice to have women like Kate Upton around.

Tumblr!!

Simply put, Tumblr is kind of awesome and ridiculously underrated. I moved my blog over to Tumblr from Blogger this year and I’ve found that it just works better for me. I think you can interact more with people, there’s more pics and information, and less of the garbage that fills up Facebook and Twitter.

Homeland and SOA

image

Thisyear, thanks to the magic of social media, I was coerced into watching Homeland and Sons of Anarchy and I’m eternally grateful to the people who forced me to watch it!

image

These are two of the best shows on TV and if you aren’t watching them, START NOW. I spent about 2 months going through all of the 5 seasons of SOA that I had to catch up on and it was worth it. Homeland just finished it’s second season so if you haven’t gotten into it, now is the perfect time.

Books

Stolen/The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight/Divergent/Bitter is the New Black/White Girl Problems

I read a lot of books this year but these were the ones that got 5 stars and happened to be my favorites for the year. If you’re looking for a complete list of books I’ve read and enjoyed you can go here

The Evolution of Miley Cyrus’ Style

Hereis the thing, I ride with Miley. I think a lot of people forget that she JUST turned 20 and is basically a child and expect some kind of sophistication from here that NONE of us had at her age, so get over it. Her style evolution from the beginning of the year to the end of 2012 has been wonderful, for a fashion obsessed girl like myself, to watch. From the top knots, to the high waist pants, to the sheer tops, to the haircut, to the EVEN shorter haircut, I love it all.

And have y’all ever taken a look at her accessories game? She rocks so many killer bags, hats, belts etc…

Christine Teigen aka @ChrissyTeigen

image

OK, Christine Teigen is a model. She is gorgeous, engaged to John Legend, and also happens to be an EXCELLENT cook. And while all of that is fantastic, that is not why I love Chrissy Teigen, I love her because one day someone RT’d her into my Twitter timeline and my Twitter life was never the same. You see, Chrissy Teigen (as you’ll find her on Twitter) IS FREAKING HILARIOUS. She pokes fun at herself as much as she pokes fun at other people and she is quick witted without being too mean spirited. She is the first one to discuss how much she hates models and the first one to point out her flaws all while watching the same trashy TV that I watch and making me feel somehow connected to her. She is one of the few celebrities I follow and the longer I follow her, the more I love her. John Legend is very lucky indeed.

Neflix Adding Disney Movies

YES!!! Netflix has finally reached some kind of partnership with Disney to put newer movies on the site but I don’t care about that! I care that as of now, I can watch all kinds of wonderful movies from my childhood! Pocahontas, The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, Rescuers Down Under, etc… It is truly amazing to get to see all these movies again! I think they’re slowly adding more so I’ll be impatiently waiting for the rest of those perfect 90s Disney movies.

Alexander Wang to Balenciaga

image

The wannabe fashion obsessed and couture loving girl inside me was totally excited when rumors of Alexander Wang to Balenciaga were announced and when it was confirmed, I was filled with glee! Will it be different? I’m sure. Will he maybe need a bit of time to find his way? Maybe. Could it be a disaster? Possible. Do I think he’s going to be freaking fantastic and blow everyone’s mind? YES!

Beyonce got an Instagram…and We All Realized We’re Inadequate

Beyonce has succeeded in making us realize we aren’t worthy by finally getting an Instagram. I don’t stalk it like some folks but I do love it and I think it’s an adorable mix of badass pics and these cute little notes she randomly writes. It is nice to have a reminder that no matter how good you think you look, you aren’t Beyonce. Ha.

And my favorite thing about 2012? The year itself! I know a lot of horrible, unimaginable, bad things happened but a lot of good things happened to and on a personal note, it was a wonderful year. I had my moments of sadness but I met some really great people this year and strengthened some of my old friendships as well. I had a few friends in their 30s tell me that 27 and 28 were the best years of their life so far and since I spent all of 2012 being 27 (my birthday is the first week of Jan) I guess that had something to do with it. Still, it was wonderful, I enjoyed it, and I can’t wait til next year!!

So here’s to the fun, the drunken nights, the brunches, the books, the movies, the friends, the celeb gossip, the rants, the sadness, the catchy Taylor Swift songs, the statuses and tweets, the fights, and the love that made up my 2012. I loved every minute of it.
